Tongue tie assessment and support
1 to 1 assessment with an expert Tongue Tie Practitioner
(60-90 mins)
Tongue tie or Ankyloglossia is a condition that is present at birth and affects approximately 1 in 10 babies. It is defined as a shortened or restrictive piece of tissue under the tongue that forms during embryo development in the womb, and can limit tongue mobility. This is an ancient condition, there is mention of it in Greek medical texts and even in the Bible. For some babies a tight or restrictive frenulum can impact on tongue function which can affect infant feeding. This can affect both breast or a bottle.
If there are concerned about your babies oral function you will want advice from an expert to provide you with context, education, referral for treatment, and also non surgical alternatives to help your baby feed better. I can also fulfill insurance requirements for documentation prior to TOT specialist referral.
Appointment includes:
Full oral assessment using the evidence based Hazel Baker scoring tool (HATLLF)
Palate assessment
Weight check
Full feeding history and assessment
Bespoke plan for your baby based on findings, which includes education on surgical alternatives
